Real Estate Agent
Certified Professional Consultant on Aging
former Certified Financial Planner

Cheri is a real estate agent with Royal LePage Coast Capital Realty, a real estate investor, and a former independent, certified financial planner. She relies almost exclusively on referrals (and the odd seminar) to expand her practice.

Cheri has been involved in the financial services industry since 1979. She started out doing administrative work for a life insurance agent, and began doing personal and estate tax returns two years later. In 1987, she expanded her offering to include the sale of mutual funds. During the 1980's, she was also involved in farm estate planning in Saskatchewan.

In 1990, Cheri moved to Victoria where she began building and expanding her business and skills. Her income tax preparation business was particularly successful, and at its peak, she was doing approximately 800 personal tax returns a year. She has now eliminated the investment and financial planning aspects of her business, preferring to concentrate on real estate, both as an investor and as a real estate agent.

Cheri is a former Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and a current Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) (previously known as Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)). She has been on the faculty of the Canadian Academy of Senior Advisors, training other professionals on the health, social and financial aspects of aging.

Cheri has three children and three grandsons. She lives with her partner, Rick Hoogendoorn.

Rick Hoogendoorn is a real estate agent with Royal LePage Coast Capital Realty, a real estate investor, and a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging. In 2007, he was named as Canada's first Certified Senior Advisor of the Year for his work in helping to make Victoria a more senior-friendly city.

Before becoming a real estate agent, Rick was a real estate investor, an insurance agent, and an investment and personal financial advisor. However, he began his career as a television news and sports reporter in Vancouver.

Rick volunteers on the the board of the Family Caregivers' Network, an organization dedicated to providing education, resources, and non-financial support to unpaid family caregivers in the Greater Victoria area and across British Columbia. In 2011, he conducted a series of interviews with experienced family caregivers forming a YouTube series with over 60 videos. In 2012, Rick completed his second book "18 Holes To Your Goals" with all profits going to support FCNS and their annual charity golf tournament.

"What Is Stopping You?", Rick's first book, contains a simple system for identifying the hidden beliefs that prevent people from doing what they want. Both his books have led to a developing career as a keynote speaker, with speaking jobs as far away as Switzerland.

Rick is also on the executive of the South Vancouver Island Classics' Soccer Association. When he is not selling houses, chances are you will find him on a soccer field somewhere in Greater Victoria.
